Hi girls, I’m Emma, the Founder and Managing Director of GRL Health and Fitness!

I fell in love with the gym after quitting hockey due to two knee injuries, as naturally I missed the feeling of keeping fit and getting endorphins flowing!

Having turned to the gym during a very tough time in my life, I soon recognised the benefits in exercise not only physically, but mentally even more so.

I finished up my English degree at QUB but had no real passion to find a career linked with this subject. I decided to study for my Personal Training qualifications and soon began my career within the fitness industry, working in different studios before GRL was born.

I began GRL from Edenmore Golf Club in July 2019, and soon after opened the Moira gym in October 2020. My drive to help women become the best version of themselves, build confidence, knowledge and a love for their own bodies, motivates me daily to continue growing GRL.

GRL has produced many life changing results over the years, and it’s only the beginning!

From opening the gym in September 2020, I extended the gym to twice the size from July 2022. This has enabled more women to feel safe in our female exclusive environment and excel in their fitness journey- both physically and mentally!

Where ever you’re at in your fitness journey ladies, we would love to stand by you in support!

Emma

Here’s my story & journey with GRL

My passion for fitness started at a very young age when at primary school I’d love to run, then progressed into playing sports like netball as I went into secondary school. This is where I passed my GCSE PE exam.

Furthering on from that I moved onto an GNVQ leisure and tourism course with A level sports studies & when I suffered my first knee injury!

I met my husband that summer & moved to England for 15 years where I changed my career path & completed both levels 2 & 3 in beauty, however my heart wasn’t in it.

I went on to have my 3 children & finally decided to return home to Northern Ireland in 2014 where I got too comfy over the years with take aways, nights out & not much else!!

This led to me hating my body. My 40th birthday was soon approaching & this is when I came across Emma & GRL! I took part in her online course, loved every minute of it so continued for over a year training under her guidance!

In January 2022 I decided to contact Emma when I saw she was advertising a position at GRL. I went on to pass my level 2 fitness instructor & level 3 personal trainer qualifications & was employed as a Semi Private coach. So it’s now no longer my dream as I made it my reality 💫

To top that off I was promoted to Manager to help Emma with the day to day running of GRL.

My drive, passion & enthusiasm to help women see & feel a better version of themselves is reflected in my coaching on the gym floor. I become their biggest cheerleader & motivator. Nothing gives me more satisfaction to see them walk away being proud of themselves, their accomplishments & to see how fitness is changing their lives. I’ll continue to learn & pass on my knowledge so more women can feel/see that exercise is vital for their mental & physical health 🤍

Qualifications:
  • Level 2 Fitness Instructor
  • Level 3 personal trainer

My dream was to be able to help people build confidence in themselves through training.

I understand how it feels to be in a position where you don’t know where to start or the kinds of food you should be eating to help meet your goals.

I’ve made the mistakes and learnt first hand what not to do.

To be able to help women build confidence in themselves and watch them fall in love with the process is one of the best things of being a coach.

Yes, the physical benefits are rewarding, but how it impacts your mental health and every aspect of your life is what this journey is all about. My goal is to help each individual become the best version of themselves.

Qualifications:
  • BSc in Sport Rehabilitation

Hi everyone, I’m Rebekah!

My journey into health and fitness began at a young age. Growing up, I was always active and played a variety of sports, though my true passions were golf and rugby. An injury put a pause on my sports journey, but it ignited a new drive within me—not only to recover but to help others on their fitness journeys too. This led me to pursue my dream degree.

I earned a BSc in Sport Rehabilitation at the University of Salford, where I lived for over four years. Recently, I moved back home to Northern Ireland, bringing my knowledge and experience with me.

I initially started personal training with Emma in 2019 near the beginning of her journey and I’m now part of a dedicated team, with my background in sport rehabilitation and my passion for health and fitness equip me well to guide others in achieving their fitness goals.

Let’s work together to build a healthier, stronger you!

Mahzina Iqbal

Coach
Qualifications:
  • BSc in Human Nutrition
  • Level 2 and 3 PT qualified

Hello everyone I’m Mahzina!

From a young age I have always had a passion for health and fitness particularly in nutrition. Growing up with older brothers who were into their fitness and weightlifting sparked an interest in me for the gym, so after finishing high-school I completed a diploma in personal training to educate myself and help my own training in the gym. Taking this passion further, for four years I studied BSc in Human Nutrition at university and am now a qualified nutritionist.

I was keen to join the GRL team because I loved the empowerment, strength and atmosphere that’s been created, it’s not only a gym but a safe space for women to hit their nutrition and fitness goals!

My education has really taught me the importance of nutrition linked with health, wellbeing and training. I’m constantly learning and educating myself in the health and nutrition industry and would love to help others with their nutrition goals and share my knowledge.

Can’t wait to meet you!

Hi, I’m Laura! A proud mum of eight wild little ones. Fitness has always been important to me—not just to keep up with my kids, but to set an example for them. For years, I stuck to home workouts because I didn’t have the confidence to step into a gym. But I found myself making excuses, struggling with my nutrition, and watching my weight creep up, leaving me feeling uncomfortable.

In January 2023, I took a leap and joined GRL as a client- just like you! I started SP sessions to build my confidence in the gym, learn proper techniques, and push myself beyond what I thought I could do. And I haven’t looked back since!

Thanks to GRL and its amazing coaches, I’ve not only transformed my own fitness journey but also pursued my passion further—earning my Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification. Now, I’m here to help other women, especially mums like me, find their strength, confidence, and joy in fitness.

Being a coach has been an incredible journey, and I love empowering other women to realize their potential. We are strong, capable, and can achieve anything we set our minds to!

If I, a mum of eight, can do it—so can YOU!

I can’t wait to meet you and support you on your fitness journey!
